I. Department CD-ROMS

  1. Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) Disk E

  • What: essentially all Greek literature to 600 CE & many texts from 600 to 1453 CE.  Current Version is “TLG Disk E”

  • Where: (1) computer in 309, or (2) borrow the CD from Barbara

  • How: needs a search program—"Pandora" on Macs; "TLG Workbook" (or equivalent) on PCs.  The latter is already installed on the computer in 309

  1. Packard Humanities Institute (PHI)  Disk # 5

  • What: pagan Latin lit. to 200 CE plus Justinian’s Digest;

  • Where: (1) computer in 309, or (2) borrow the CD from Barbara

  • How: needs a search program—"Pandora" on Macs; "TLG Workbook" (or equivalent) on PCs.  The latter is already installed on the computer in 309

  1. Packard Humanities Institute (PHI) Disk # 7

  1. Database of Classical Bibliography (DCB)

  • What: version 2 = l'Année Philologique, vols. 45-60 (1974-89); version 1 limited to vols. 47-58 (1976-87).

  • Where: (1) copy of version 2 in Wilson Reference; (2) copy of version 1 (version 2 on order) with Barbara

  • How: search engine must be installed from the CD-ROM.  It is already installed on the computer in 109. Search tips & guidance for using the CD-ROM may be found at the DCB Web Site.

  1.   Davka Judaic Classics Deluxe Edition

  • What: Tanach & Commentaries, Talmudim, Kaballah (Zohar, Tikunei Zohar), Midrash (Mekhilta, Sifra, Sifrei & aggadic midrashim), other halachic and philosophical works

  • Where: check out from Barbara

  • How: CD-ROM contains its own search engine; needs to be installed on computer in 309

II. Wilson Library CD-ROMs

Room 179, Wilson Library, has an extensive collection of CD-ROMs, including:

  1. The Bibliotheca Teubneriana Latina (Teubner Editions of Latin Texts)

  2. New Testament Abstracts

  3. International Medieval Bibliography

  4. Dyabola (subject catalogs of publications on the history of art and the ancient world. It includes the subject catalogs of the German Archaeological Institute in Rome, the Bibliography of Iberian Archaeology from the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid, and the Archaeology of Roman Provinces from RGK Frankfurt).  An on-line version is also available over the web.

  • What: Major classical Greek and & some Latin texts & translations; a collection of text tools, including parsers, grammars (Smyth, Allen & Greenough), several older commentaries, and dictionaries (‘Middle Liddell”, Lewis & Short)

    • can be used as a reverse index (set search window to “end of dictionary entries”)

    • can be used to find synonyms and semantic groupings by searching in English definitions

  • Also includes: Atlas & Images: landscapes, site plans, architecture, vases, coins, sculpture; and hypertextual Princeton Encyclopedia of Classical Sites

    • Use integrated Lookup Tool to search all databases in one pass

  1. Patrologia Latina (ed. Migne)

  • What: Latin Patristic Literature from 2nd cent. CE to 16th cent.

  • Where: on-line at the University of Michigan (w. University of Minnesota subscription)

  • How: must be accessed through the LUMINA interface to use the University of Minnesota subscription 

  1. Inscriptiones Latinae Eystettenses

  • What: Latin Inscriptions (H. Dessau's Inscriptiones Latinae Selectae and a large sample from the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum)

  1. Epigraphical Databank of Heidelberg (ed. G. Alfoeldy)

  • What: all Latin Inscriptions from l'Année Épigraphique 1894-1990
